ASCP Presents 2018 Member Lifetime Achievement Award to TCU Global Innovator Hassan M. E. Azzazy

The American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Member Lifetime Achievement Award honors ASCP members who have made extraordinary contributions to the ASCP and to the profession.
Chicago/Oct. 10, 2018—The American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) presented the 2018 Member Lifetime Achievement Award to Hassan M. E. Azzazy, PhD, SC(ASCP), DABCC, during its 2018 Annual Meeting held Oct. 3-5 in Baltimore. This award honors ASCP members who have made extraordinary contributions to the Society and to the profession.
Dr. Azzazy is a professor of chemistry at the American University in Cairo (AUC). He serves as the chairman of Chemistry Department and was the associate dean for Graduate Studies & Research at the School of Sciences & Engineering. He is the founder/director of the International Medical Laboratory Scientists training program at AUC.
He has more than 28 years of experience in biomedical research and is the founder/director of Novel Diagnostics and Therapeutics Research Group. A core interest of this group is the development of low cost innovative diagnostics for accurate and affordable detection of biomarkers of infectious agents and cancer. He has co-edited two books on “Diagnostic Enzymology” and “Entrepreneurship & Innovation” and serves on the editorial boards of Clinical Biochemistry, Clinica Chimica Acta, and Clinical Chemistry Laboratory Medicine. Dr. Azzazy is an inventor on eight patent families, several of which have been granted or at the national stage. Dr. Azzazy authored over 85 peer-reviewed papers in international journals, 70 conference presentations, and 25 book chapters. His current Scopus H-Index is 26 and his total citations are 2279. He holds two board certifications in Clinical Chemistry and Molecular Diagnostics from the American Board of Clinical Chemistry, Washington, DC.
A strong advocate of entrepreneurship education, he has collaborated with European Training Foundation (Turin, Italy) for many years to promote entrepreneurial learning in higher education in Egypt. Dr. Azzazy has founded two nanomedicine startup companies. He is the co-founder & CTO of D-Kimia, LLC innovative diagnostic solutions and the founder & CEO of NanoEbers, LLC for nanofiber wound dressings.
He received his BSc and post-graduate diploma in biochemistry from Alexandria University, Egypt. He received his PhD from the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, University of North Texas Health Science Center, Fort Worth, TX, and was the recipient of the Faculty Merit Award as an Outstanding Graduate.
